After a successful taste test for the new “beyond sausage breakfast” back in July 2019, the franchise decided for the official launch of the new recipe nationwide starting from 6 November.
The chain is planning to have another open taste days on November 8 & 9 from 8 a.m. to 10 am.
Dietitians had a look on the new recipe nutrition facts and here is what they think:
First of all, the beyond sausage breakfast sandwich is made of a fried egg, American cheese, 100% plant based sausage patty all this is put in a toasted English muffin
Now, we will have a look at the nutrition facts
Here’s what to expect from one of these sandwiches:
- Protein: 24 g
- Carbohydrates: 38 g
- Fat: 24 g (8 g saturated fat)
- Sodium: 901 mg
- Calories: 470
- Fiber: 2 g
Is the Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich a healthier choice?
Dunkin claims that the new recipe is containing around 33% less saturated fat in total of 29% less fat. Less calories, cholesterol and less sodium than the regular sausage breakfast sandwich. “Looking at numbers, The Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich is nutritionally in far healthier than the traditional choice,” says Julie Upton, founder of Appforhealth.com website
Nonetheless, the breakfast is still not a healthy choice, you would ask why?
“The 8 grams of saturated fat is no joke, as is also contains 910mg of sodium, salt in other words,” says Keri Gans book author of Small change diet-thinner healthier. It is a plus to have a meatless option in the menu, especially for people who are trying to consume less meat and for those who went vegan.
Upton recommends that for a healthier food choice at Dunkin’, one should opt for the Veggie Egg White Flatbread instead. He adds” generally, making your food at home is the best choice, oatmeal, fruits and milk is a nutritionally complete meal for a robust start of the day.
